Managing inventory
From the Advanced Accounting Console, you can manage inventory through releasing backorders and posting inventory transaction receipts.
Manually releasing backorders reverses an order's BACKORDER status. A released backorder is removed from the holding stage for orders awaiting inventory and is returned to its appropriate order processing stage.
Upon entering a product inventory transaction and verifying that the transaction information is correct, a transaction can be posted. When an inventory transaction is posted, a product's inventory records are updated with the transaction information.
Releasing back orders manually
The Manually release backorders option is available even if the Automatic Backorder Processing option is enabled on the Backorder Processing window (Settings > Commerce, click Backorders).
To release backorders manually, do the following:
- From the Advanced Accounting Console, go to Commerce > Inventory > Release backorders.
- Select the orders you want to release from BACKORDER status.
- Click Convert. A message displays prompting you to confirm returning the selected orders to the appropriate order processing stage.
- Click Yes to release the backorder.
Posting receipts
If you elect to post inventory transactions automatically (not recommended), all transactions are posted when they are entered and saved on the Receipts and adjustments window. Automatically posting inventory transactions is not recommended because it does not allow you to review your transactions and make any necessary corrections before posting the transactions.
By posting transactions manually, you can verify and correct any errors before posting a transaction. This helps protect product inventory, backorder, and cost of goods sold information from inadvertent updates or changes. Inventory transactions are posted manually as long as the Automatically Post Inventory Receipts/Adjustments option is disabled on the Inventory System Setup window.
After verifying that your transaction information is correct, you can post your inventory transactions individually, in groups, or all at once using the Post receipts window.
To post inventory receipts, do the following:
- From the Advanced Accounting Console, go to Commerce > Inventory > Post receipts.
- Select the transactions you want to post.
- Click Post. A message displays prompting you to verify posting the selected transactions.
- Click Yes to post the transactions. A Product Posting report generates automatically.
