Understanding Certification Programs

Review the following to understand the workflow and configuration options for Certification Programs.

Program components

A Certification Program consists of multiple components that define how learners earn and maintain certification:

  • Courses - Required learning modules that must be completed.
  • Products - Items that may need to be purchased or completed as part of the program.
  • Credits - Continuing education or professional development credits that count toward certification.
  • Final exams - Assessments used to verify knowledge or skills.
  • Signup fees - Fees that may apply when registering for the program.

Learners achieve certification once all required components are completed. Each certification is valid for a set period.

Certification paths

When purchasing a Certification Program, learners may have the following path options:

  • Initial Path - Defines the standard requirements to achieve certification.
  • Recertification Path - Used to renew certification after it expires. May include the same or new requirements.

Each path defines the steps needed to earn certification. Once completed, the certification appears in the learner’s training history.

Additional options

You can define the following additional options for Certification Programs:

  • Validity Period - Certifications are valid for a specified time before renewal is required.
  • Grace Period - Provides extra time to complete requirements after expiry.
  • Recognition of Prior Learning - Automatically marks previously completed items as complete upon enrollment.
