Importing groups
Panel Designer has a type of Group. You can use the Workbook Converter to create or update Group data sources. For iMIS for Clubs users, there is a Household Demographics group type that the Workbook Converter natively supports.
Importing data into the HouseholdDemographics group source
TipThis information is for iMIS for Clubs users only.
Review the following notes before importing data into the HouseholdDemographics group source:
- The household must already exist in iMIS for the import to be successful.
- If there are multiple households with the same name, the data is not imported.
- If the household already has data present, the import does not update the data.
Do the following to import data into the out-of-the-box HouseholdDemographics group source:
- On the Contents tab of your workbook, make sure the Household Demographics Data worksheet is configured:
- Worksheet Name - Household Demographics Data
- Worksheet Type - GroupPanelData
- Data Type - HouseholdDemographics
- Create a new tab and label it Household Demographics Data.
- Define the following header row for the Household Demographics Data tab:

GroupName - The name of the household already defined in iMIS.

HousingType - Must be a pre-defined Housing Type Code.

NumberYouth - Number of youths in the household. Numeric value.

NumberAdult - Number of adults in the household. Numeric value.

MultipleAdult - Must be a pre-defined Household Multiple Adult Code.

SingleAdult - Must be a pre-defined Household Single Adult Code.

HouseholdComposition - Must be a pre-defined Household Composition Code.

HouseholdIncomeRange - Must be a pre-defined Income Range Code.

HouseholdIncomeValue - Exact value of the household income. Numeric value.

AssistanceProgram - Must be a pre-defined Assistance Program Code.

OtherAssistanceProgram - If AssistanceProgram value is Other, enter the name of the other program.

PrimaryLanguage - Must be a pre-defined Language Code.
NoteTo review or add any of the properties noted as pre-defined, go to Settings > Contacts > Group demographic options. See Group demographic options for more information.

- Enter the data in the worksheet.
- Save the workbook and import the data.
Creating a new group panel source and importing data into the source
You can use the Workbook Converter to create new Group panel sources and import data against the source at the time of creation. You can also import data against Group panel sources that already exist.
Creating the group panel definition
Do the following to use the Workbook Converter to create a new Group panel data source and import data against the source:
- From the Workbook Converter's Contents tab, enter the following:
- Worksheet Name: Name of the worksheet for the group source definition.
For example, if you are importing household traveling information, define the Worksheet Name as Household Traveling
Info Definition. - Worksheet Type: GroupPanelDataDefinition
- Data Type: Name of the
table, business object, and panel source that will be created. For example, entering HouseholdTravelInfo will create a new table, business object, and panel source named
HouseholdTravelInfo.
- Worksheet Name: Name of the worksheet for the group source definition.
- Create a new sheet within the workbook for the group source definition:
- From the bottom of the workbook, click the + icon to add a new sheet.
- Label the sheet with the name you entered in the Worksheet Name field (Household Traveling
Info Definition). - The definition worksheet is where you define which fields are used in the associated data worksheet (to be created in the following steps). From the new definition worksheet, enter the following column header properties:
- PropertyName
- Type
- Length
- Scale
- Prompt
- Enter the data for the properties:
- PropertyName - Enter the properties that will define the new group panel. For example, if the group panel you are importing has a column header of SpecialNeeds, CarSick, ConsultDoctor, and Tips, enter those four properties in the PropertyName row.
- Type - Valid values include: Int, Checkbox, Date, DateTime, Money, Number, or String.
- Length - Only used when the Type is String. Enter the maximum allowed string length.
- Scale - Enter the number of decimal places for any data types where applicable. The maximum value is 12.
- Prompt - Enter the text to be used as a label or prompt for this property.
Creating the group panel data
Do the following to create the group panel data worksheet:
- From the Workbook Converter's Contents tab, enter the following:
- Worksheet Name: Name of the worksheet for the group source data. For example, if you are importing household traveling information, define the Worksheet Name as Household Traveling
Info Data. - Worksheet Type: GroupPanelData.
- Data Type: Name of the table, business object, and panel source that will be created. For example, entering HouseholdTravelInfo will create a new table, business object, and panel source named HouseholdTravelInfo.
- Worksheet Name: Name of the worksheet for the group source data. For example, if you are importing household traveling information, define the Worksheet Name as Household Traveling
- Create a new sheet within the workbook for the group panel data:
- From the bottom of the workbook, click the + icon to add a new sheet.
- Label the sheet with the name you entered in the Worksheet Name field (Household Traveling
Info Data). The data worksheet is where you define which data is to be imported into the group panel. - The remaining column headers must match the properties you entered in the definition worksheet's PropertyName row. For example, SpecialNeeds, CarSick, ConsultDoctor, and Tips.
- Continue creating group definition and data worksheets as needed.
